COLLEGE HISTORY
D. S. Senanayake College was inaugurated in an prefabricated building on the 10th
of February 1967, with 167 kindergarten students [in memory of Sri Lanka's first
prime Minister the Hon. D. S Senanayake. It was the dream of one person, the
Honourable I.M.R.A. Iriyagolla, the then Minister of Education. It was realized by the
vision and the missionary zeal of Mr. R.I.T Alles our founder principal. He was ably
assisted by a dedicated band of teachers and a loyal and ever enthusiastic body
of parents.
Mr. Alles, his teachers and parents transformed a school that began as a shed into
a massive national educational Institution that has produced men of calibre who
have excelled in the fields of medicine, engineering commerce, and sports at not
merely national levels but also internationally..
This rapid growth has been achieved within a very short time of 29 years and is
still sustained, by The untiring efforts of successive principals, this great school
has been blessed with. The College has now more than 30 permanent buildings ,
a large playground, a fully equipped cricket ground , science laboratories with all
facilities, a computer laboratory with complete network facilities, a first for a
Sri Lankan school and a gymnasium. A swimming pool is in the offing.
A significant undisputed feat in the rapid development of this school is that from its
inception, successive governments of whatever political hue took pride in
contributing most unreservedly towards the progress of the institution in
appreciation of its work and successes.
